1957: First Washington Birthday Cover
The club issued its first George Washington Birthday Cover on February 22, 1957, and has continued the practice annually, issuing hundreds of Washington Birthday, First Day of Issue, Special Event, and Meeting covers since.

Every year, our Cachet Chair designs and produces the yearly cover celebrating George Washington’s Birthday. On the 22nd, or the next business day, he and one or more club officers travel to the post office at 3500T Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy, Mount Vernon, VA 22121, to hand-stamp the club’s yearly covers. Production is limited to 50 or so, unless there is demand for more.

Submitted, approved and produce for the event by the USPS

The club occasionally produces Cacheted covers for other events, most recently featuring Joesph Warren, born June 11, 1741 in Roxbury, Mass who sent Paul Revere and William Dawes on their messenger rides to Lexington on the evening of April 18, 1775.
The Massachusetts Provincial Congress appointed Dr. Warren the rank of Major General just a few days prior to the Battle of Bunker Hill. When offered the command at Bunker Hill by Major General Israel Putnam and Colonel William Prescott, Warren stated that he would take no command but was there with his musket to serve only as a volunteer.

In the past the club has also prepared other covers for first day of issues, Inauguration day covers, meetings and other events.
Our Cachet Chair is also a Cachet Maker registered with the USPS and produces other covers, most notably Inauguration Day Covers. He attends all Inaugurations, regardless of which candidate wins to celebrate history and buy, sell and trade covers with fellow enthusiasts. In recent years, starting with Former President Obama’s closed Inauguration vendors have not lined the streets with bins of inauguration day covers, and the postal station has not always been available for hand stamping like they used to. More recent covers are produced and sent to the fulfillment center for processing and return. Just doesn’t have the same sprit but the covers are the same and admittedly the hand cancelations the fulfillment center apply are consistently better quality.
